I like Yakusoku. It means promise. But if you don't like the number of syllables, you can always pronounce it like most Japanese do: Yaksok :D Sometimes it's Yaksoku.

BTW, she's adorable!!! :love2

. . . and the word you're looking for is "breed."

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

So maybe you should name her Shizuku?

Call her Woof.

That way when you are looking about in your neighborhood and calling her name people think you're crazy.

"Woof! Woof!"

"what are you doing?"

"Calling my cat"
"Woof! Woof!"

Looks like she'll just go by Kitty. :D

She could be the Rogue to your Gambit. :P
Like vampyreshoujo suggested, Lucy Fur
Shasta
Minx
Madam Hairball

Good luck with your decision!

After finally fixing my setting problem so I can view the pic of the new furball.

She looks like a Priss from BGC or Pacifica from Scrapped Princess (fits her history)

:topic I always remember George Carlin's line about why bothering giving a cat a name since it will never come when called. :hitting:
"Like the wind crying endlessly through the universe, Time carries away the names and the deeds of conquerors and commoners alike. And all that we are, all that remains, is in the memories of those who cared we came this way for a brief moment." Harlan Ellison

Hmmm....

I was thinking.....

I don't know the japanese word for heaven... but the one for sky is.

Sukai ---- pronounced "Soo ka eee"

I think that's right.

Sounds like it might be a nice name.

^^*giggle* I'm guessing that's always written in katakana?

Short Japanese lesson: when an "a" is followed by an "i" the sounds blur together, making a sound like the Engrish "i" as in "ice cream."

So basically, Sukai is just the Japanese pronounciation of the English word. Am I right, kittens? Oh wait, she's out of town, huh?

But actually, I wouldn't doubt that many Japanese use that word, depending on the situation. They actually use a lot of English words . . . the trouble comes in figuring out what they're saying. :P Reminds me of my first experience trying to translate katakana . . . purojekuto? purojekto? projekto? project!!!! :D

The traditional way to say sky is "sora." "Ten" also means sky, but I think the better English translation is heaven, and I think the kanji that goes with "ten" is always accompanied by another. :emb One of the chapters in JPN 102 is on weather . . . :topic

Wow, sorry about the digression! It's still a great name. :D

I've got another suggestion: Baka. :dban

EDIT: Did that little Japanese lesson sound too know-it-allish? Sorry if it did.

Nope, it didn't... most of us aren't Japanese speakers :-)

It was interesting to see that Ten = heaven. That makes sense, though, given that Tenshi = angel. !!!! [don't mind the weirdo, she gets excited about word origins]

Anyway.... how's Kitty coming along? any decisions?

I was going through the same thing the other day when I bought a third fish for our new tank. A little teeny coby catfish. I finally named her Puss. Struck me as a great name for a fish.

But naming a cat is hard!! We ended up giving Brandy her name based on her yellow-golden color... but half the time she's just "Yellow Cat."

:P

Kitty spends most of her time asleep on my lap :) and using me as her personal scratch post play buddy.

Still no luck with the names I'm afraid. Thanks to everyone on beta, I'm swamped in great names... and lesser great :D, mking it just as difficult as if i had none. :D
