Has anyone here ever had their hard drive taken out through an instant messenger program like ICQ?
My friend is in a gaming clan and a few months ago someone took out several of his fellow clan members hard drives (and his) by messenging them viruses/trojans through security holes. Apparently this happened to a number of other tournament players too.
It was a nasty way of taking out some of your competition. Ever since then he hasn't used any instant messenger programs. So it's hard to get in contact with him now.

Where there is a will there is a way. Cheaters are always looking. I'm an admin on a server and I can attest to that.Keropi wrote:It was a nasty way of taking out some of your competition. Ever since then he hasn't used any instant messenger programs. So it's hard to get in contact with him now.

It may be a hoax, but it's a good idea anyway. You should never open attached files if you don't know who they're from. Of course, some viruses are smart enough that they check the sender's address book so you can get a message like that even from someone you know. That's why I don't open attachments even from people I know unless I was expecting it.
How many software programmers does it take to change a light bulb?
None, that's a hardware problem.

For moral reasons?

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I agree, it does sound like a good idea. I don't open mail from people I don't know unless they have a subject about something I know about ex: anime (Guilty as charged
) Yes, I admit I get random emails from people who like anime and open them...Though other than that I don't open emails from people I don't know

Typically, as long as you don't download any suspecious programs that get sent to your email, you should be fine. But for email clients like MS Outlook where it is set up to automatically download attachments (you can turn those options off) you may be at more of a risk. Just keep your anti-virus and spyware progs updated and you should be fine. ^_~
As you should!soda wrote:I only open email from Ashura if it has "porn" in the subject line. Then I know it's her.

Wow, it felt like forever being away from a computer. Wonderful weekend, but now all I want to do is eat fruit

It's just as important to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com a couple times a month and be sure that you have the latest patches for everything. Security holes are exploited by hackers rather quickly...Rekka Alexiel wrote: Just keep your anti-virus and spyware progs updated and you should be fine. ^_~

I think there might be a few exception.
