Wheel of Time has stopped for Beloved Author

Post by otakusin »

The literary world has suffered a true loss today, Robert Jordan, acclaimed author of the Wheel of Time series lost his battle with the rare blood disease Amyloidosis today at 2:45 PM. During his fight he had been working on the twelve installment in the long running series. I know many fans are quite saddened by this news, my husband and myself included.

I was really, really shocked and sad when I read this news earlier today. Robert Jordan was one of the first fantasy authors who really gripped me. It just makes me so sad that he couldn't live to see his series finished.

I'm so sad for his family, but dammit I'm pissed that I'm never going to know how this series ends. X|

What's the connection between "for his family but dammit he or she is pissed that he or she is never going to know how this series ends " and sadness?

Robert Jordan was the first person I ever got an autograph from. I still have that copy of The Eye of the World. :l He will be missed.

It's bad, but the first question I asked my brother when he told me was the status of the next book. X| I totally feel your frustration!

Aw man, that's devastating to hear. My best friend and I are huge fans of The Wheel of Time series. I'm really bummed now, because who, if anyone, will finish the books? I guess I'll email my best friend now and tell her the not-so-good news. :l

Sorry to hear about this. :(

How close was the story to being completed? I began the series a long time ago, but didn't get very far. My sister was a fan of the series.

Sadly it took nine years for my husband to talk me into starting the series. I myself am only on book four, but Joe (my husband) has read them from day one. He had mentioned to me after reading volume eleven that it was nearing it's end, possibly two more volumes. At the same time he mentioned that he never saw Wheel of Time ending, since the wheel never stops nor begins but continues so even though the first arc would possibly end he said he could see another's story beginning.

I agree with Baylor, I am deeply saddened but also frustrated, even if someone continues the story it is and never will be the same... it will never be his story, his vision and his words they sadly are lost forever and that oddly makes me as sad as his death.

So you think it can never happen?

According to Wilson, Brother/Cousin to Jordan from the official Dragonmount blog (via MetaFilter) he's had it "finished in his head for years. During a recent family sit around, he became the Gleeman and told the bones of it ALL to Harriet and me. You read that right, I did say ALL. Don’t ask, ain’t telling. Two and a half hours of story telling by the Creator himself went by in the twinkling of an eye. Truly magical. All I can say is WOW! Best stuff he’s ever done. MOL is going to knock your socks off! That’s a promise."

Bottom line; the book will get written. And even though it won't be by him directly, his fingerprint will definitely be there. (Say what you will... I've always loved The Silmarillion - it's eclectic format like getting into God's head.)

It's always heartbreaking to see a great author go, but even more so with work unfinished. :l
It's good to hear that the series has a chance at completion though, thanks for the info transment ^^! I know I would have been bawling my eyes out if there was to be no end.
