How do you decide what cels you buy/persue?

Post by Pomidor »

I dont know is this has been covered in the past, so I dearly appologise if it has. I was wondering how you decide what cels to buy/persue. I personally have 4 series that I collect and I buy nothing more. But I see that a lot of people galleries have 10 or even more series o_O with a couple cels for each, so I assume those people buy cels not caring what series they are from as long as they like the cel. I also noticed that other people only collect certain characters from a series and nothing more. So which of these are you, how do you decide what cels you go for?

I have really only seen a few anime (only what Cartoon Network plays, as a general rule) so I only collect from the series I've seen. I'd collect just a few prime cels from the few prime series I've watched, but Trigun and Ruruouni Kenshin are just about out of my price range to get anything seriously great. So I pretty much stick with G Gundam, because I love the series and because it's affordable. (Except for that gorgeous Burning Gundam on Anime-link! Still cryin' over that one! Want, want, want... )

lol I was about to mention that new GGundam on Anime-Link, I never looked at any other GGundam cel so I have no idea how they are priced, but judging from that cel I wouldnt say its affordable, lol. Hope you will be able to get the cel ^_^

I voted for any cel as long as it appeals to me. I have quite a few cels that I haven't seen the anime, I just love the art or character design.

I own about three thousand episodes of anime on disk not counting downloads, so I choose from a lot of series.

I love cels of a memorable moment :D

I buy what really appeals to me, but I seem to focus on my favorite characters in each series. I tend to be very picky for the series that I think are ok and buy more for series that I followed religously. I only buy from series I have seen, but that too is expanding since I can't stand reality TV. Anime is a wonderful substitute. I'm trying not to buy too many of one character, but I think I have to make an exception for Inuyasha cuz I already have way more of him than any other character in any series. Then there is always the price factor. But I have made a couple of exceptions on that too (paying way more than I would ever expect to spend for one cel).

I wish I knew what propels me through the cel universe but I don't understand it myself :? . For instence, DBGT. I don't know why I find the SSJ4 character design so compelling that I must buy them; but the series it's self is IMHO, sub par :P . I love series like naruto, but I can't get near anything from it :hurt: , so I stay away. I am so devoted to other series that I MUST own things :love2 and others I liked alot but I don't feel the need to collect from :shrug . There is no rhyme or reason :wow: .

I tend to buy from series that I loved to watch. I normally don't buy from series I haven't seen because I don't know if it's a rare character, a good guy or bad guy, is the scene awesome or does it suck, etc. The price I'll pay has a lot to do with the info I know about the cel.

I also tend to get cels of my favorite characters. I'll try to get at least one cel of their love interest too if they have one. For me, you can tell what kinds of anime I like and who I like just by looking at my cels. 8)

I voted for...

Specific series, specific characters, and any other cels that appeal to me.

However, I'm very particular about the character's position on the cel. As you can probably see from looking at my gallery; I avoid purchasing cels that have parts of the character missing. :P They must be intact and you must be able to see their face.

known series + cute cels

Post by marco »

I usually look for known series, mostly old stuff.
However, if I stumble on nice cels drawings (and they are cheap)
I like to get them and then try to find the series they are from.
Sometimes I wonder what is the story behind a given shot, a given scene.

From a point of general overview, I buy quite a variety. For some series, it's everything. For other series, it's only certain characters. For other series, it's only certain scenes. For some series, it's just one or two representative cels.

Special scenes mean the most to me, followed by special characters. I'm a stickler for something where I like the art though (which is why it's sad when sometimes good scenes are done on bad art days, but I'll buy them anyway), which comes into play especially when character buying.

I'm actively collecting from 4 series and once in awhile I'll pick up a cel that looks interesting.

My cel gallary is going to be boring and slow growing :( , i picked:

"Specific series but only a specific character from those series"

I only collect DBZ/GT cels and collect Goku and Vegeta cels only (might even narrow it down to just Goku or Vegeta only in future) I used to collect anyone and everyone... whoever looks good on the cel basically 2 years back when i used to collect cels but then that just got me into big finance problems so i decided to quit and sell off all the cels i had.

.

When I first started collecting I didn't have any kind of plan at all. I just collected whatever I saw that I liked. Eventually I narrowed my list down to mainly trying to get Maison Ikkoku and Video Girl Ai cels. Collecting a little of everything didn't leave me with money to get the cels I wanted the most. :D

Now I mainly try to get artwork from the ren'ai (romantic love) and bishoujo gaming anime and God knows there are enough of those to go around thesedays so I won't have to worry about running out of stuff to collect in the near future.

So my search priorities would go something like this:

1. Must have seen the anime (or be very familiar with the game it's based off of)

2. By the Genre (mostly shounen romance anime/maybe bishoujo anime)

3. By the Series (Elf Kakyuusei, Doukyuusei, To Heart, Tokimeki Memorial, Pia Carrot, Refrain Blue, Sentimental Journey, Tsukihime, Kanon, KimiNozo, Tenkousei, Magical Kanan, Campus Guardress, etc.)

4. By the Scene or by the character
