On the contrary I think our sigs will increase it's value to unparalleled heights (including the shipping costs). Now when it's all done let's sell it on ebay and get it's true money worth...
If a sketch was sent, it could be rolled in a stong tube and that would be the only packaging needed on it's entire journey.
everyone could sign the drawing [In small type so everyone can fit on] and include a Post-It note with a doodle and/or remark.

lol a pass the bishie idea would be fun, but i think all the sigs would get smeared in the drool

We should be able to add things to the package as well
hehe, that could be a fun idea. Little notes or something?
[glow=cyan]OMG BEST IDEA YET!!!!![/glow]
Include a small camera, a disposable one, and each recipiant takes their picture with the package!

We can pose with the cel/parcel around our city or home town. Take one really cool picture per person and then the last person (I think Hotice wants it shipped back to her) could develop the pictures and post them online. Is that what you had in mind NSP? If so, I think we could all donate a buck or two for the development fees. I think that would a great idea!
If we did this, we could use a box for the cel and camera. And each person could delicately reseal the box and ship it off. That way, the container could also take part in the journey around the world.
This sounds like a fun idea. I'd love to be included.

I'm not sure how well a box will last, especially if it goes around the world. But, I wouldn't mind contributing some packaging material to help fuel this effort.
I -love- the idea of the camera... my only concern with this is the fact that X-Rays and such can do harm/damage film, especially exposed film. A lesson I learned coming back from Scotland. My instructors told us to make sure that we had all our film developed and such. And with the camera going through all the customs stations, where i'm sure theres some types of x-ray/scanners... =S
I'm willing to give it a shot, see how they come out... but since (i'm going to guess) most of us have some type of digital camera... perhaps we can take a picture of us with the package and/or cel with a digi cam then post as the package progresses around the globe.
Actually, that's an even better idea Laura. We can all take our own pictures with the cel/package and post them ourselves. That way, there's no development costs and we can track the cel's journey. Whoever has the cel at the moment can post their picture right then. A sort of real time picture journal.
I think a good envelope or box would survive the journey, as long as each of us takes care in opening and resealing the package. That way, we can apply stickers or something if we want. As long as the "To" portion of the address is clearly visible, there shouldn't be any problem. I'm a professional when it comes to reusing old boxes and packing materials. Heck, even wrapping the box with fresh brown paper bags can make it look brand new.
At least, that's my suggestion. I think it would add to the sentiment of the project if we've all handled the parcel and put our personal touches on it. It would add character if the parcel shows a lot of wear and tear from the journey.
I have to say that the inital response to this thread as totally blown me away, I think the ammount of positive response is just fantastic! And I love NSP's idea of using photography, the flow of ideas is just great as well.
I've posted a list of those who have said they'd like to participate in the project, the first post. I will continue to add people as they say they would like to join in the project.
I have a rather sturdy box i got from mandrake, that could make a very good start for the beginning of the process.
