Hello everyone,
I got a question. I was bidding on an auction yesterday but got outbid. Today I got an email saying that the highest bidder backed out of the auction, and asking if I want to buy, because I was the second highest bidder.
But is there any way to find out if this email is really from the seller or not? I became a bit suspicious because the email arrived in my bulk email folder.
I can't find anywhere on the auction page where I can email the seller, but maybe someone knows how to do this?
Thanks!
help! how to email a YJ seller?

If the auction page doesn't list you as the winner, I would consider it a hoax. In order for YJ to consider you the winner, the higher bidder must cancel his/her bid, I'd assume. All I know is that when I've won stuff on YJ, the seller's email always appears on the auction page.
The email you got sounds a little fishy to me. Also, a lot of YJ sellers use the email address they got through yahoo, which means that the user name of the seller and the email address should match up (larger companies selling on YJ usually don't do this, however).

Thanks for the reply. The email did claim that the person cancelled their bid, but I didn't know that cancelled bids show up on the auction page. In this case it's not showing up. Also, the email does not match their yahoo id and there's a couple more things that made me suspicious, so I think you're right, seems to be some kind of scam.
It's hard enough to deal with this stuff in Japanese without weird stuff like this, geez.
Thanks again, tho!

There was an occasion when I was listed as the winner of 2 auctions from the same seller. After the auction closed, my bids were erased and he sold the artwork to the next highest bidder.
Not having been on the receiving end of an offer, I don't know what the procedures are, but I know I didn't receive a YJ email saying that I was disqualified.
It's quite possible that the offer is genuine- with the sellers I've dealt with, none use a yahoo email account anyway and their usernames rarely match either and it's hard to tell the legitimacy.
It may be best to play safe and NOT take the seller up on the second-chance offer. Only go by what the Yahoo Auctions final notice says, that way you are [somewhat] protected.
