You must learn to FEAR the bidding practices of the Dark Guyver!

The only bidder I fear is myself. :( :( :(

Auctions get me so tense (but I love this feeling as much as I hate it  ) and I'm not fond of my own bidding practices. I'll either snipe an auction to get the lowest price (and hate myself for being so evil) or I'll let an auction go, if I get the impression that my rival bidder is determined to win. I'd back out before even reaching half of my reserved funds. I don't see the point in pushing up the price just for the sake of it (and then I hate myself for being so soft!)
And unless it's a wishlist, I'm likely to not even place a bid if I see a deputy service bidding, incase it's a beta member (again, I hate myself for being so soft!)

I'm either a b!tch or a pushover. X|

Ah, I love this hobby

Always bid what you're willing to bid. It's a war of attrition. If you don't make your rival pay full value for cels, they'll just have more money to bid against you next time. That's not to say that you should drive up their bids just to cost them money, but don't let them have it for less than you're willing to pay for it. Also, if you drive the price up, that might attract other sellers to let loose of similar cels ;)

It's good to have at least two or three anime that you like where you don't have high prices or high competition.

Those are good fallback anime that you can enjoy collecting from while the other shows you might be trying to get are bid into the stratosphere.

That's one of my goals in life. To find another anime I like that I want to collect. It makes for a less stressful collecting experience. There is always something to search for and there is always something new to find.

There are no limits to this except your time and spending limit. :)

I don't really have any known rival bidders on Y!Japan... but eBay on the other hand, there is one handle that collects from about every series (including 99% of mine (i've yet to find another collector for Diachi's Earth's Defense Family) - and usually this person puts in a bid at the start, and if they're out bid they put in a huge snipping bid at the end. When i see their name, I usually know I'm going to loose - but I still try... I have ZERO chance to win an action I want if I don't even bid on it. :P

when it comes to Ranma.. I have 3 rivals I fear.. O_O
:flushie
either because of their location
(they have an advantage over the hrs auction end)
or/and of course, deeeep pockets.:$$$: :$$$: :$$$:

One of them being a friend, we even make jokes about
stepping on each other's toes over Shampoo cels lol!
:rollin :hitting:
So its all good.. win some lose some ^_~

The other is in Europe and 3rd is a biiiggg Ryoga fan
I lose auctions to every once in a while.
I' wish they had a gallery, I can only imagine how many A grade
shots me and a few others have lost to him-- amazing collection
of the fang-ed lost boy for sure. *_*
:drool :bow :love2

As for my fallback anime like Keropi mentioned-- always nice to have!
/no1 :woot:

Though lotsa collectors know me by Naruto, ...
Ranma has always been my #1 collecting bug!
But because of scarcity of A shots and prices/competition,
I go to Naruto for my immediate yummy fill.:bny

I barely have any Naruto rivals (1 or 2 here and there but
not consistent ones) since my interests in characters
are not as demanded of (but still unfortunately expensive lol!)
:emb
So when I lose a pretty Shampy-poo I wind up looking for
Narutos I can splurge my money on instead LOL!

I don't really fear any bidders on YJ, but there are a couple of Japanese bidders that consistently irk me with their insane bids. I collect mostly old school anime cels, and there are a couple of Japanese bidders who share the same tastes as I do, whether it's a dirty pair cel or a BGC poster or a Macross book. Whenever I see their bids online on something I want, I pretty much know that I will probably lose, so I do my best to make sure that they don't get that item cheap or at a bargain price. Everytime I see a nice Dirty Pair cel that is killer, I know I don't stand a chance. But I'll bid high, and if I can't get it, then they'll pay for it! :dsmoke :redhot

Oh, crap, there's his YJ bidder named "Bluewhale". They bid on SO many Ah! My Goddess things, it's insane. Most of the 'rarer' cels that come along, figures, lunchboxes...

I figure that I'm not going to outbid them. I've tried before, and failed. Miserably.

There are one or two Pokemon cel bidders that I have come to... despise :x Every decent cel, they are all over them and bid INSANE amounts. When they pop up, I know I am going to lose :( Or I don't even try, because I know the outcome.

One good thing does come out of it, though. After the bidding wars, more cels tend to come along, because sellers are now excited that maybe they could make a bundle. Not to say I win those, either.

Sigh...

I don't have anyone I fear. I bid what I'm willing to pay and move on. If I lose, so be it. Usually a sequence mate will come along shortly that I can get cheaper.
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!
