I've just heard on the news oil prices will rise again due to the hurricane.
Big whoopin' suprise there. If instead of the hurricane, someone sneezed, the prices would have risen because of the potential damage it could have done.

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

True... but in this case there's a good reason for it. Lots of refineries and wells in the Gulf got pretty much smashed up and/or can't operate without POWER. (not that I don't think some folks won't try to take advantage of the situation...)
I am... so thoroughly humbled and profoundly saddened by this turn of events... the complete and utter inability to do anything is just awful. Sure, I'll contribute what I can to the Red Cross, and if they'll have me, I'll donate blood. But what good that does those people clinging to the tops of roofs RIGHT NOW is basically nothing. It's almost like survivor's guilt... here I am on a glorious day in Colorado, in a mostly secure job, and an ENTIRE REGION has just had their entire lives... erased.
We need some decent aerial mecha in there
In all seriousness... someone on a blog my husband frequents said "WHY doesn't the government charter a few cruise ships for the people at the Superdome?? Doesn't that make sense?! food, shelter, medical facilities... they could do that just long enough to get the water pumped back out of the city and go from there...
But it'll never happen. It makes too much sense.

It makes sense to me.

The Three Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Let me think it over. Count me out on this one, I was never much of a writer.

Hmmm. Hadn't really thought of THAT anglecelgami wrote:I guess you can't count on a robot to be a humanitarian.
I don't know about cruise ships. Being surrounded by water again is probably the last thing they'd want.
The rest of us can only do what we can, as little as it may seem at the time. Every little bit helps.

Phew.
Yep, we'll do what we can and ... punt on the rest, I guess.
