I need my dose of "funny not heavy on the thinking"-anime and Eyeshield 21, eps 15-20 perfectly fit the bill.

Oops, I actually watch a lot more than I write down. I don't sleep well at night, so I download a few anime eps and watch them until I get tired. (I use streamload so an ep takes 2 - 5 minutes to download) I've been like this since I was a kid. I wish I would sleep moreKeropi wrote:I said that because I don't think you've mentioned seeing any Shuffle! episodes since July 26th.Ashura wrote:Why would you say that?![]()

Funny you should say that, I was telling my friend the same thing. I still like Hiroyuki better, even if he is grumpy (and lazy) lol.Keropi wrote:Yeah it's a nice change. The old "guy-who-panics-when-he's-close-to-a-girl" cliche is very repetitive. Rin reminds me somewhat of Hiroyuki in To Heart. But Hiroyuki was more on the grumpy side.
Now I see. I only watch raws when I am desperate to see the next ep (isn't often). I'd like to, but I hate getting lost in translation.Keropi wrote:I'm watching them raw. I'm too eager to wait for certain shows subs to come out. I refer to Blogs or Anime Forums to fill in the details of what I don't understand.
I've watched:
Shuffle 11 (the whole panty-less ep brought back an embarassing memory)
Tsubasa 24
Naruto 154
bleach 52

Ah okay. I see.Ashura wrote: Oops, I actually watch a lot more than I write down.

I tend to like older ren'ai game male leads more. The older male gaming leads tended to have more personality. The male leads from the last two or three years of games tend have generic weak personalities. They're usually nice guys, but they usually only have one or two real strengths and have very few rough edges. "Key" game male leads tend to have more personality. Yukito and Ryuya in AIR and Yuuichi in Kanon all had their own personality quirks. Yukito had rough edges, but he was fun and different.Ashura wrote: Funny you should say that, I was telling my friend the same thing. Discode 1-3 (okay - 5.3):
Strange in a "Warrior Maya" sort of way. In Discode's case, it was the MAIN plot point for the entire anime. At least it was different and unintentionally funny.

ARIA 1 (okay - 5.3):
http://www.ariacompany.net/index2.htm
Whoever put this anime in the "Slice of Life" category was very accurate. The laidback, idyllic atmosphere of ARIA reminds me a little of "Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou". The animation is clean and bright. The setting is on future Mars, but the setting looks like an idealistic, super clean version of Venice, Italy. The way the boats are designed in ARIA makes me wonder how the girls can row straight when the oar is on the SIDE. I'm not sure if I will watch more of this or not. It may actually be a little TOO laidback for me.

Shakugan no Shana 1 (fairly good - 5.8 ) :
http://www.shakugan.com/
I didn't think the TV animation quality was going to be a good as the DVD Prologue that came out earlier and that turned out to be the case. The animation during action scenes still looks decent (decent for TV), but for non-action scenes the animation looks somewhat ordinary. From watching the first episode I think I might enjoy this series. I liked this almost as much as Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl). **two thumbs up**

Mai Otome 1 (okay - 5.4):
http://www.my-zhime.net/
This was very different from what I was expecting. The Mai Otome anime began with a fantasy-like setting. Flash forward fourteen years and we have the setting for Mai Otome. The Mai Hime characters have major roles in this apparent (from what I can tell) "butterfly effect" alternate universe of Mai HiME. Most of this episode had a very light hearted atmosphere to it. Shizuru ended up with the coolest action scene (of course). Her cool demeaner is always fun to watch, but I can't say I was blown away with this episode.

Shuffle 12 (okay/decent - 5.5):
I was disappointed with the animation of this. The animation has taken another small step downward. Storywise I wasn't too interested in the first third, but the last two thirds I liked a lot better. Kind of a freaky preview for episode 13 though.

Ichigo Mashimaro 11 (watching it unsubbed - okay - 5.4):
I found this episode to be pretty funny. It felt like the pure comedy episodes that started off the series. The show's timeline has progressed all the way up to cold weather now. It appears to be around November. The way how this episode ended it seemed like a last episode for the show, but a quick check reveals we still have two episodes left.

Solty Rei 1 (decent - 5.6):
http://www.solty.net/
Gonzo was involved in the animation of this. I liked the visuals in it especially the night cityscape rooftop scenes. There were some good action scenes (being a GONZO involved anime that was expected) and I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. I wish I had Jouji Nakata's (Hellsing's Alucard) voice.

Black Cat 1 (okay - 5.3):
http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/blackcat/
More nice visuals from GONZO.

I see the first English fansub of the new season out is "Canvas 2". That's kind of a surprise.

Re: Trailer for new Ghibli short films
I've never played any anime games (aside from a few arcade fighting games in college with my friends *boy did I suck!*, I didn't even play any of the Final Fantasy games). This season is going great for me so far. A lot of the new anime are from genres I tend to like. But even given that, I'm still having more luck than usual:
Strong Likes:
Jigoku Shoujo, Shakugan no Shana and Stolty Rei.
Moderate Likes:
Canvas 2, To Heart 2.
Sort of Likes:
Mai Otome
And I haven't even started watching some of the anime I wanted to see the most like Blood+, Ramune, Rozen Maiden - Träumend and Karin.
But since so many of this season's anime are action dramas or bishoujo anime that may explain why so many of these anime are broadcast so late at night.

Let's see what I've watched this week...
I finished up Negima which is nowhere as good as the manga (especially
when they decide to deviate from it at the end).
Pani Poni Dash which is one of those shows which I totally enjoy, but I can't
decide why. The OP theme is really catchy.
An ep of Girls Bravo.
Several episodes of Goldfish Warning. One of the few older series that I'm
watching.
Haru Kanaru Toki no Naka de...or something like that. Reminds me so much
of Fushigi Yugi.
Gun X Sword which has absolutely nothing original in it so far.
Oku-sama wa Joshikousei which is barely staying on my watchlist due to
the repetitive "plots" (and I use the word loosely).
Naruto - latest episode of the latest filler arc.
Speed Grapher - As Baakay put it: disturbing and interesting at the same time.
Gokujou Seitokai - Absolutely stupid, but that's why I love it.
Shuffle - Great character designs in it.

This evening I watched Jungle De Ikou 1-3 which completes this short OVA. It's a really good series which had me laughing loud at least once per episode, I loved some of the weird and the ecchi moments, it was too good.
One scene is where the school girl is in class and her 'possessed' female classmate comes over to her. Itt apearss as though she is trying to seduce her and ive a full-on kiss. At this moment we see other girls in the background cowering saying "it's bad, it's bad!" whilst the boys fling their head's back with goofy expressions and have simultaneous nosebleeds! Pure anime class!!
Haven't seen such an amusing anime since Usagi Chan de Cue!!
Hmm, the destroyer- Ongo, did remind me of the forrest beast from Princess Mononoke- could Ghibli have taken inspiration from this little series?

I'm glad that Speed Grapher is still worth watching. I would like to get back to watching it someday. But this new season is severely constraining the amount of free time I have.
Gin-ban Kaleidoscope 1 (okay - 5.4):
http://www.sonymusic.co.jp/Animation/ginban/
I wasn't sure what this anime was about until I watched it. This appears to be a shoujo anime.
EDIT 3:49 PM PDT October 9, 2005:
Gin-ban Kaleidoscope was originally a shounen novel. However...later a shoujo manga was produced based off the novel.
SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 1:
Blood+ ep. 1 (decent - 5.6):
http://www.blood.tv/
So far it seems decent. I'm not having problems with the animation so far. If this series is really 52 episodes long there should a lot of plot development to it and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Did they actually skip THAT far ahead in the manga to make the Blood Movie?
Gunparade Orchestra 1 (okay/decent - 5.5):
http://www.gpo-anime.jp/
I only watched the first episode of Gunparade March. I never got back to seeing any more of it, but it always interested me because of the way they designed the game the anima was based on. The Gunparade March game, if I have this correct, was a ren'ai (romantic love)/managing simulator/mech action type of game. It was also a game allowed you to have romantic story endings with both the male and female characters. I assume you played as a female character when you were trying to see the male character's stories and played as a male character if you were trying to see the female character's stories.
It's a very weird blending because that means that the game was both shounen and shoujo at the SAME time. That kind of blend rarely works because neither gender is completely satisfied. You have to compromise things for both sides. This made me wonder how the anime would be produced. From what I could tell from the people that talked about it, the anime took the perspective of an outsider looking in and was not centered on a particular character (Sort of like a "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" perspective).
The animation seemed decent. I enjoyed the snow animation and a few of the outside scenes almost looked like picture frame scenes. Gunparade Orchestra, from what people I have heard say, uses a completely different cast from Gunparade March. I think I'll watch more of this because it seemed like a likeable enough show to me.
But who is that Penguin Dude?
So at this point that's EIGHT new shows for me to regularly watch, THREE new shows that I might continue to watch and THREE old shows that I'm regularly watching. I wonder if I'm going to be able to keep up with all of them.

SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 1:
It's about a girl that's a skilled skater. She's at a high enough competitive level to be questioned by TV reporters. She appears to attend a Catholic school. One day she takes a hard fall in a skaking tournament and wakes up in the hospital. There's a guy that seems to have died in a plane crash around the same time she hit her head. The girl then finds that the deceased guy is inhabiting the inside of her head. She hears his voice and he can respond to what she says. Of course she's not very happy about the situation and the people around her think she's going nuts when she starts doing a bunch of weird things. ![]() I found the first nineteen minutes to be very funny. By the end of the episode though the running joke got to be stale. Still...I found this amusing enough to want to see the next episode. |

The first episode of RahXephon seems interesting enoughto watch the rest of the series... and the 2nd viewing of FFVII: AC only makes it better.
