I can see what you mean, Gabe. Aren't all Miyazaki films made for the theatres? That would mean that the cels are painted on 13" wide acetate. I've seen some proper Mononoke cels and they were long, not TV-sized like these items on auction.
The shots also look too good to be true, especially when the studio reproduction cels sold for over US$500-1000 each

Gabe, you're a consumer watchdog for rare cels. I should pass you the links to prospective purchases to make sure they're legit. On second thought that could backfire unless... Have considered collecting Hello Kitty cels exclusively? ;^^

@ Krafty: Yes they were made for theaters.
And there was a Sequence mate of Nausicaä a few weeks back with a starting bid at Y500'000.

I got an email today from a YJ Seller who I know for years and he told me that I should be cautious with YJ auctions at the moment and warn my collector friends, too.
Currently there are some drawing artists who produced many cels by themselfs and try now to sell those through diffrent seller IDs on YJ.

So when you mention one of those fakes let me know the link so I can forward it.

But if it says that its an fancel it's of course "ok" and you have not to forward me the link ^^.

Interesting. Are Mononoke cels notorious for being fakes? I am not all that familiar with the market for them. I guess it is a little late but what are your opinions on the authenticity of the this one? I got it on YJ this past spring.
