Speed Racer - the movie

Post by miz ducky »

Hello All!

I saw Speed Racer tonight, despite all the poor reviews that I heard.

I enjoyed it. I remember the cartoon and watching with my little brother. I remember how cheesy it was, so I wasn't expecting anything "ground-breaking" from the movie. I just sat back and enjoyed the silliness, and had tears in my eyes at the end from laughing so much.

Don't go to it if you are expecting a serious movie!!!

Honestly, I would not buy the dvd, and if I ever did happen to have the dvd in my possession, I would skip all the silly talking and plot development (snore).

But all in all, I did enjoy it. All the crazy silly moments made it fun for me.

Have any of you gone to see it yet?

Who was expecting super plot development from Speed Racer anyways?

Glad you liked the movie!

I've read some really positive reviews on this film...I wasn't going to watch it at the cinema, but after what I've read I think I will! Glad to hear you enjoyed it though! :)

I don't think I've read that. Can you give me a reference?

I'm not one to post about a movie but this is different. I loved Speed Racer the cartoon. In my opinion, they could not have done better with this movie. I was astounded at the poor reviews I saw. I'm convinced these critics have never watched the cartoon. The camerawork, the cinematography, the casting - All spot-on. Loved it. If you liked the cartoon, you need to check this movie out.

I admit I didn't want to see Speed Racer, but it was the first day of summer vacation and I didn't have anything better to do.

Boy, was I surprised! It was a blast! I think they did a great job condensing the entire series into a long (+1 potty break) movie, and I have to say it was very entertaining and a lot better than the reviews I've read. Definitely see it on the big screen. DVD won't do it justice.

It is sort of movie meets anime meets CG meets the Matrix brothers on acid.

I loved the Japanese feeling and the blending of nationalities and languages throughout. My son was captivated from start to finish, and yes we did have to go to McDonalds and buy Happy Meals (Speed Racer ones) right after.

Yeah, I will probably see it on dvd when it comes out at some point. I certainly won't go into expecting a deep plot or good acting, so I think my enjoyment will be fine.

I'm glad that you guys all enjoyed it.
After all the reviews I thought that I might have been the odd one out who enjoyed it. But, I'm glad that you all had fun too!
