Goodbye Geocities
http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/sil ... 009_4.html
http://geocities.yahoo.com/
My first website was totally hosted on there... it was a pretty damn good website too! I got sidetracked and they eventually took it down because I never logged into that e-mail address.
Anyone else ever use them?

You can always try The Way Back Machine if you still remember the URL...

Thanks Rei!
I see his webpage did work for a moment. I looked through half his pages and then got a:
Sorry, Service Temporarily Unavailable.
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Additionally, a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Please check the URL for proper spelling and capitalization. If you're having trouble locating a destination on Yahoo!, try visiting the Yahoo! home page or look through a list of Yahoo!'s online services. Also, you may find what you're looking for if you try searching below.
I expected this because you usually couldn't look at his pages before you used too much bandwidth and the page would go down.
EDIT:
Hey! It works check it out.

Archive.org of course. I'm far too recent of a collector to have even heard of Jerry's site until just now.
Edit: but wow, he has some great cels.

Oh okay.Killua wrote:Archive.org of course. I'm far too recent of a collector to have even heard of Jerry's site until just now.![]()
I met him and Freddy at the Cel Collectors meeting at Anime Expo 1998. I wonder who else was at that meeting? I wouldn't have recognized many of the collectors there at the time.Edit: but wow, he has some great cels.
It took me a long time before I seen any cels at all from some of the shows listed on Jerry's website. His website was like a reference for some of those shows so I knew what else to expect from those series. He had a lot of cel series on his website years before I had anything from those series like Kakyuusei, To Heart, Doukyuusei, Campus Guardress, etc.

For a while, back when my web hosting service capped at 100MB or so, I had moved my cels page to geocities. I added my little kit and usa pics at the top in order to space the page down because of the geocities logo at the top. I still use the same page design even though I've long since moved to my own domain.

Well...Geocities is going down today:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technol ... osing.html
I hope those archivists saved enough of Jerry's Cel site among other places. I took a few screenshots of some of his pages, but I didn't get them all. I may never see some of those obscure cels again.

I will miss it too. I started my gallery there but then upgraded immediately to Yahoo's paid service in order to avoid the ads. My gallery has not moved since.
I remember what a disaster that first gallery was. It was incredibly slow to load, and I was totally confused by the process of creating a website. I had to go out a buy a couple of books in order to teach myself HTML and website design in order get my gallery to work properly. So sad to see it go.
