Vote for new Catagories for the anime-beta awards 2009.

Dumb Question:

"Vote for 2 new categories" yet the poll will only accept 1 vote.

I would vote Tranquility & Best Scene/Setup if we are accually allowed 2

Also confused -- I thought Funny and Cute were already categories -- are we getting rid of these and voting on new ones?

Just to clarify -

samiamew:
Rest assured that there are no plans to remove the current "cute" and "funny" categories. We believe Starfighter included the funny/cute/lighthearted option at Benten's suggestion for an additional category, although it isn't clear if that is what Benten wanted to call it or not.

JWR:
The polling format is somewhat limiting for this type of feedback. The polls being what they are, we believe that the top two choices will be chosen as the new categories, i.e. - if "Tranquility" and "No new categories" are the top two choices, only "Tranquility" will be added. This does imply that at least one new category will be added (if not two).

Sorry was going through what catagories people on beta wanted added and benson said these two catagories so I included them in the vote .

, I voted: vehicle.

I don't have any cels like that...

but I figured looking at a page of images possibly ranging from the Yamato

to the Batmobile

would be lots of fun!

Well since benson wanted funny/cute/light hearted I left it the way it was
said, it will be light hearted now . I tryed to change it on the poll but since the poll started it can't be done. but this is to inform you it is now ony lght hearted.

To see a range of setups would be brilliant, whether it's a 2-layer or 12-layer composition they all look great but don't necessarily display traits that could place them as contenders in an exisiting category.

Since I could only vote for one, I voted for Tranquility. But I would also like to see Best Scene as a new catagory as well.

Question...Isn't "visual florishes" covered by the special effects catagory?

Just to get the point, what does BEST stand for ???
BEST what ?
- BEST conservation quality
- BEST specific moment in an anime (requires to know the concerned anime)
- BEST global aspect
- BEST number of layers

You see, say BEST or TOP is always dangerous when to many selection parameters and different individual point of view enter in a judgment. BEST compare to what, BEST for who,... what is BEST anime and so on.

Ideally, I would like a 'best scene' to tell a story. If I look at that particular cel, I can get a good idea of the plot. So, color & composition would play a big picture in that catagory.

Some cels feature characters and emotions, but all they tell you is how a character feels. Others are more dynamic and you can get a good idea as to what is going on.

So "most expressive scene" may better fit ? But there is again a problem to define what sensation is higher than another, love, pain, sadness...

But what would be others opinion ? Certainly totally different...

This is like opening a pandora box with non strict enough criterias.
I'm not sure that such category is a good option while seeing how different claims where already exposed on more detailled categories.

This is not a criticism, only the fact that such category sounds too wide open for every art that an individual mind will consider as being more representative. Additionnaly due to a majority of native english voters, the scenes considered as best ones will be the one able to create a nostalgia feeling, and consequently only the broadcasted shows in english language...
