PS3 (fat) or PS3 (slim)???

Post by Shampoo »

Crawling out from my rock to pose a question to
my fellow betarians- particularly the gamers.

I'm sure I'm totally pushing it considering X-mas is next week
but I'm in a pickle over what to give my cel-senpai.

I know he wants a ps3 pretty badly but
after reading reviews about the new 120gb Slim and its
errors, fry-outs, slow blue ray performance, and overheating
I'm not sure if I should pursue it :?

Our bud has one of the older "fat" ps3 and sounds pretty happy
w/ it but I'd hate to spend that kinda money when I could get
the 120gb. >_<
Maybe I should say 'screw it' and give him a bottle of blue label :D

So what say you, peeps????

Slim all the way.

Quieter, lighter, bigger HD and the problems with the CD drive which plagued the PS3 Fat has been fixed.

I have the PS3 slim. Everyone I know who has a slim loves it. I've never heard of anyone having any kinds of issues with their machine so the review you read just strengthens my hatred of reviews period. :^^: Reviewers are only voicing their opinions without necessarily researching it further.

Plus, I have a friend who has PS3 envy. :^^: She has the fat one and has played with my slim one. Now, she wants the slim.
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!

Unless you're talking about a B/C PS3, there is no real reason to go with anything else than a slim. Besides, they're easier to find. :D

I'm curious though, could you PM me some links that talk about the failure/issues with the slim? Might be reason for someone I know who has suddenly changed his opinion on wanting one.

Thanks for the comments guys!
:jump
It gives me a lil more assurance .
In the end, I wound up buying him a garmin
:emb

yea a far cry from PS3 or Johnnie.. damn.. I kinda
was hoping more would vote for that so I could
drink his gift too. :P

Since we still have an ancient CRT tv and thought itd be a
crying shame and half-assness on my part to get him a
ps3 w/ no HD tv to view the games on.
So we'll have to wait until we can
save and splurge on a new system w/ the works.

Yosh:
I found the negative reviews on the Amazon.com
1-star portion on the PS3 slim as well as
various gaming forums and yahoo Q/A on
PS3 vs PS3 slim.

One that struck me the most was on the PS forum itself
where different people talked about a patch that screwed up
the slim and were stuck w/ sending it back for repairs to PS
for $150.

I just bought a ps3 slim now that the ps3 has gone down in price and I can rationalize buying it... I have no complaints at all. I like streaming all the anime to the TV, the dvd upconversion, blu-ray and games of course... I'd seriously invest in a nice TV too with 1080p and hdmi input. I've no had problems with the slim yet. :)

If it's of any interest to you, I'd recommend a PS3 fat that still has the backwards compatibility with PS2 games. They also have more USB ports and more card readers (compact flash, etc). Naturally, they haven't made them this way in a while and would require some effort on your part to track one down. All PS3's, fat or slim, are PS1 compatible... I guess that's something. Otherwise, get the slim because it uses less electricity and it's smaller. You can't install your own custom OS, but most people don't do that anyway.
