new rubberslug is live
Howdy. Exciting day. Just launched the new version of the site.
Much more work to be done, but for now feel free to leave any bug reports and feedback over at RS. Sadly, fixing one last bug made me miss the 10 PM CST cutoff to get myself a burrito from Chipotle. I'm a little sad, but at least I'm done with the site for the next, oh, hour or so. Yay!

Left you a note on the RS Forum, Jason. I like many of the new features, and the home page puts both the blogs and the forum in higher profile. My complicated update this weekend went with only one glitch, the old logout/login procedure needed every so often to make thumbnails.
But the forum itself needs work to be as useful and convenient as the Beta forum. One obvious deficiency is the lack of the toolbar that Beta shows, allowing me to italicize, boldface, change color and size,, not to mention insert
annoying
emoticons. Also the option to Preview posts and correct the markup before making them live.
For that reason, I expect that I'll continue to be like many Sluggers who post art on RS but communicate on Beta. However, the changes do make it likely that I'll notice and reply more often to the RS blogs and forum, which is a step to the good.
That said, I, like others, appreciate the personal time and commitment you've made to creating this way that has made the animation art collecting community much more of a personal, supportive place for us all.

Will our sponsorships carry over? Silver, Gold, Platinum...
Although I'm quite enamored of the new site, I find the new description/comment box for artwork to be incredibly small. It's difficult to visualize how it will look when the text is crammed into such a tiny space.
Also, do we only get one Featured Image now, instead of 2?

The new site looks great! I really like the new design. I like that the colors have much less contrast than the old RS design (it's easier on my horribly light-sensitive eyes).
So, thank you for that. The softer colors make it much easier to look at the main RS pages.
There are a couple of things that bug me, though, and I hope you don't mind if I mention them (one of them always did bug me but it's more pronounced on the new site). I kinda feel bad bringing these things up, because I know how much work goes into developing a site like this, so I hope it's not too annoying >_<.
1) On the account page, all of the sections have a dark black background with bright white text. This harsh contrast really hurts my eyes. In truth, the old RS always did, but I think now that it's on the gray overall background, it really hurts. I actually can not look at the page at all now, because it hurts my eyes so much.
2) No offense to those who like this sorta stuff, but I really don't like the page movement when I move my mouse across a recently updated gallery. The sliding effect is SO distracting, and because of the placement of the recently updated galleries, it is incredibly difficult NOT to end up sliding the mouse cursor over that area.
Other than those two things, it's a great improvement over the old site.

Looks awesome. I really like what you did with the RS site. ^_^
I did notice a few things.
All that was in my "trash" is now again all over in the Gallery. lol
It's ok I don't have a problem with it since I lost some scans and it helps me, but was that suppose to happen?
On my wishlist all the images are gone. Will they be back added or are they gone? I wish now I saved all together in one folder but never done that.
Otherwise it's overall great. You did a great job Jason.

Congratulations for the new RS, it is amazing!!
Can I ask you a few questions and make suggestions?
The new popular tags sections is a great idea. It makes it easier to find interesting galleries than the old RS search. Could you explain here how you compute the gallery ranking for a given series? Is it based on how many items a gallery has, or else a number of hits? My suggestion would be to have this ranking based on the number of unique visitors in the past 30 days for example - this way new galleries wouldn't have a disadvantage compared to older ones. If it is based on a number of hits then it's a bit unfair too because a gallery with many low-end items will be considered better than a gallery with a few high-end ones, since a visitor views almost every available item.
It is the same problem with the ranking of the top 3 cels in a given gallery. Basically, my oldest items come first, not the best ones. This ranking should be based on the number of hits in the past 30 days. Can this be done? If not, I just wish I could reset all my gallery hits, is this possible?
Anyway thanks again for your hard work. Your website is really essential to our community.

I, too, find it somewhat difficult to navigate. But I'm willing to give it time before I make a final assessment.sletia wrote:It's flashy and pretty, but I just find it confusing. Call me a party pooper, but I'd rather navigate RS on the old format.
For those of you with spouses who aren't collectors, it would be interesting feedback to have them make an attempt at navigating all of the site's features. See what their reactions are.
