eep. I'm well past that but I think I'd be hard pressed to dredge up the names.
"blonde guy with glasses"
"little squatty kid who laughs when he loses"
"redhead who's smarter than most of the rest of them combined"
Well, I was hoping DT would get that far and when she found the answers she could tell me..a quiz so to speak *do you feel picked on DT*....actually
I was asking about the Insei friends, not the Go club friends which are not seen as much and the names are harder to remember. I think you are referring to Tetsuo Kaga or are you referring to Ochi. Anyway, there are 2 ppl that help Hikaru along the way as an insei...that's who I was referring to. Of course the blonde guy with glasses is Seiji Ogata. I'm not sure who you are referring to as the little squatty kid. Here is a good link with the characters http://senseis.xmp.net/?HikaruNoGo#toc4

I've read the mangas that are out in America and there really isn't much of a difference. In the first two mangas there are some minor changes but all in all it seems pretty much the same.

Got it Thanks!
I have read manga (I think upto volume 22??) and yeah this is great series!
But now that GK's seen it . . . well I have to see it now. Plus you and Baylor giving me some crap for not watching it yet. Hey, at least I just finished Tactics.
I want to be able to play GO, or at least think I can, by the time I start con hopping this summer. Did this show inspire anyone to do that?
DT you are too funny. I still have yet to watch Tactics or Trinity Blood. All these new shows. I'm now on episode 41 and waiting for the rest to download. Once they are done I will have a marathon. So in love with Akira. I love all the characters actually, but something about Akira. He's just too cute.

Personally, I think the star is Hikaru...as in Hikaru no Go....
but have to admit there wouldn't be a storyline without Sai since he's the reason Hikaru gets interested in Go in the first place.
Actually I love all the main characters...and the rivalry and friendships that develop throughout the story. Kuwabara, the old pro player and Hon'inbo title holder, makes me laugh. His laugh is contagious.
As for trying to play Go, I haven't tried that hard myself but both my daughters have. I even bought my youngest daughter a beginning book on it which had a Go board with it. She has also tried Go online. I have justed enjoyed the series, not caring that I really no very little about the game itself.

Oh but you must!!! then all of us TOTAL novices can meet up at some con or other and lose miserably as a tribute to the show!
I had the embarrassment of having to try about 45 times to solve a little problem on the GO site I've been working with. It's written in Javascript so that, even if you think there might be a better move or something you'd do instead, or the move they have White make looks really dumb, there's a specific problem they want you to solve and that's that.
and I knew that was behind the coding and it STILL took me dozens of tries to solve it!
it's such fun and you can see why it becomes so addictive to its serious players.
You know your in big trouble when you start
watching the big title matches online and keeping
the kifu's to study afterwards. I did this with both
Honinbo and Mejin matches.
But, in case you are interested in times and dates,
oh and results - here ya go!! (No pun intended )
I also became interested in learning Go when I first watched the series, and my mom, without even knowing that I was watching a show about Go, bought me a Go board for Christmas that year. But it's been quite some time since I saw HnG and the Go board is still in its box gathering dust.
I'm to episode 61. Hopefully will finish the series tonight. I'm starting to fall for Hikaru and Sai as well. Sai is so pitiful and cute.

Just finished the series. I haven't watched the specials yet. But here are some of my questions:
Where exactly did Sai go? Will he never return to another person? How can they have specials when there is no Sai? I was totally bawling. Are there movies slated for this show? Does the manga differ any as to how and when Sai leaves and if he ever returns? We never got to see the "Hand of God". So many things left open.
