Watch the process of cel animation! Neat video!

Post by MidniteKitten »

So a Sailor Moon community I frequent just posted this, and I had to share. It's an amazing insight into the world of cel animation. They show you storyboard, to douga, to test run, to xerography, to background, and filming! It was really neat to see a scene from my favorite anime and the steps it took, I was speechless and out of breath, it was a beautiful process, and definitely moreso than before I have a better concept and appreciation for the shows I love so much.

Only the first 3 minutes really deal with the cel animation, then it's the seiyuu interviews. But believe me, it's 3 minutes of awesome! To see the bank cel was incredible! Even if your not a fan of Sailor Moon it's worth a watch :D

(sorry if at some point this has been posted, I just got excited :D)

Nice! I was cool to see some of the machinery. I did notice that they skipped the douga step of their explanation completely. 8O Maybe that means that the douga work was completely outsourced by Toei by that time. :P

Very cool! It certainly made me appreciate animation artwork more, seeing how much effort they put into the whole process. Thanks for sharing! :D

Pretty neat. Thanks for sharing that link.

Even if Miyazaki is not happy that Tezuka accepted low cost, tight animation budgets, I think if the budgets were higher we wouldn't have had as many anime released as we did. Now a lot of people would be perfectly happy with fewer anime/higher budgets, but I'm just glad there are people out there that were willing to work for low wages to bring us the anime that we saw.

Considering what the non-supervisory animators get paid, I feel kind of sorry for those guys.

Glad to see everyone is enjoying :D It sure is sooo much more effort than I'd originally thought.

I'm glad they did as well, but sometimes I like to believe they didn't mind all too much because the finished product made people happy, and that was something worth working for :) Or at least I hope that was a contributing factor lol.
