Somehow I think that because the term replica was only used in the title of the auction as far as I could tell, the buyer probably didn't realize it was a fancel. Hopefully however that is not the case because that is one expensive fancel otherwise.
Irmgaard that is pretty interesting that one of your cels is being used as a fancel and being sold, that would make me feel kinda special.
they don't seem to mention the fact that they're fan cels in the actual description - thats a little shifty. Also they are keeping the bidders private so no one can send them emails letting them know their not real.
not to ethical if you ask me.
And didn't we just see those fancels on YJ not too long ago?? I think they sold for a high price on YJ... perhaps the person who bought them decided they didn't want them after all and just wants to get their money back out of them. (Completely conjecturing here... probably not even close to correct! )
Those sure are purty, and perhaps even as fancels they will be worth every penny to someone. But I do hope they understand what they're getting.
Yeah it was probably only like 2 weeks ago they were on YJ, and I think morgan is right its a little shadey to be selling something that they neglect to put its a replica or fan cel in their descriptions as well. However, at least with the sessy one you only the feedback of that eBay user was private, not the whole name, so you could still contact that member you wanted.
Yes, I was quite miffed at how ultra-persistent this person was in shooting me down for that. I WANT that shot. But there's a limit, especially when it's a fan cel! Sheesh.

That's kind of like the Ah My Goddess fancels that were on YJapan not too long ago that were going for over one hundred bucks a piece. I was really surprised - I promised myself I'd never pay over fifty bucks for a fan cel, only because that money could be used to buy the real thing One of Belldandy in her swimming suit went for 21,500 Yen - CRAZY! Just for a Fan Cel?
And, wow. I can't believe that Sessho fan cel went for almost five hundred dollars?! There's no way on earth someone would pay that much for a fan cel - I wonder if the person got it and realized it wasn't real? Gosh... That would suck so bad. I know I got some "Studio copy" genga and douga from Bebop a few months ago, in which the auction said "originals mixed with copies". I assumed I'd get at least ONE original.
In all fairness, the last auction for Fluffy that you posted does contain the phrase "Fan cel" in the title. I would hope that the users bidding on the items realize that they're bidding on a fancel, but, there are a lot of users that do bypass the information part just to oogle(and subsequently bid) on the picture.
Anywho, I think part of the reason why people are buying these items at crazy prices is because they really don't know about cels. They may be convinced that all Inuyasha artwork was CG or they may be convinced that all the primo shots from this anime have been scooped up and will never appear for sale again. Also, you've got to add the fervor that Inuyasha has going for it(at least in the US), and many fans will pay good money for something pretty that sparks their love for the anime, even if it's not a good shot of that particular character. I'm honestly suprised that I haven't seen a box of Kraft Inuyasha Macaroni and Cheese, but...that's not me(Who wouldn't love to munch on Dogboy?).
