Have you stayed true to your roots?

Post by jenn-b »

I don't know why this question just hit me, but I'm curious about fellow collectors habits! Back in the day - yes, about 10 years ago - I started out collecting strictly DBZ and Gundam Wing. While it had been almost 7 years or so since I purchased I DBZ cel - I recently won a WONDERFUL Picollo cel - I still actively collect from Gundam Wing. Although, I seem to be really picky about GW cels anymore :D , I do have one coming soon!

You may have noticed, however, that I have vastly deviated from what I originally started with. Heck, I feel like I am constantly expanding my collection!

So...how about you guys? I know that several of you have managed to stay faithful to strictly one series. Others may fall off the path from time to time *cough Gonzai* only to wander back to what is your true focus. And color me impressed about that! I completely lack focus!!

well ... I think I kept my focus ... (^___~) ...

although I have to confess that I bought a lot Orochimaru and Jiraiya art in the last months (because Zetsuai, Cathexis and Bronze arts don't pop up so frequently anymore ... (-.-) ... I got my last piece 197 days ago ... yes, I count the days ... *lol*) ... but my true focus is and will remain Zetsuai ... (*_*) ...

Well I only started collecting a year ago with Hunter x Hunter and Berserk... and that's pretty much still what I collect. So I've stayed true to my roots, yo. 8)

The simple answer ... no

When I started collecting, I intended to limit myself to four shows. They were VHD, LU, FY and AS (Heroic Legend of Arslan). Then I saw a few cels from other shows I liked and created a miscellaneous section.

I still collect from the same four shows and still consider them my top priority. Its just that my miscellaneous section has expanded a bit.

*edit* OK I oversimplified. I actually started off with three. VHD was added a little later since it hadn't been made yet at the time I started collecting. Its just that it came out shortly after I created my gallery so I just added it in.

I think so. 5 years ago I was buying DBZ/Lamune cels I could afford as well as series I like. When I found out that the cels from these series aren't as rare as I thought they would be I kept the ones that I really loved and sold off the rest.

Nowadays, I have (surprisingly) turned down a lot of cels from some series I like in order to get the ones from the main ones I collect from. I've also become pickier about what I want to buy from said series.

From years gone bye, I didn't limit myself to any one or even a few series. I tended to collect from shows that I watched multiple times. My style of collecting is one of a completest. So I think that limited me from over expanding.

Fastforward >>> In the past two years I have stayed painfully true to my self imposed prison. I have only bought cels from my absolute favorite anime series. The series should be obvious. In addition I've also stayed true to the self imposed number of cels purchased per year: one.

So the answer is no/yes.

And just because: :dban

Yes. :)

I'd say this is a really obvious answer for me--I started out collecting Gundam Wing 7 years ago and I still actively collect (and am most passionate about) that series. I've added lots of other series since then, but if you look at my non-RS gallery (even though it is now my collection merged with Yoshito's), you'll see that there are almost 150 pieces from Gundam Wing alone *laughs*.

I would say that I'm true to my roots, in that I never had a focus, and I still actively collect cels from my favorite series (logh). I've added a lot of series of course. It's just gotton harder to find good cels of scenes I don't already have from most of the shows I collect these days.

My roots were DBZ and OLS, neither of which I collect any
more. I then focused on IY, but rarely collect from that
show either. I have certain shots from IY that I would still
pay 4 digits for, but anything other then that, I simply do
not even consider.

My main focus, obviously, is Hikaru No Go and even at that,
is strictly Sai. I am also very focused (well as focused as one
can get giving the rarityof any artwork coming out) on Kyuuzo
from Samurai 7. Since it is so rare, I am not too picky, and
am basically willing to take anything I can get. Samurai 7 is
rarer then Sai, wihout a doubt, but anymore, getting any Sai
is like pulling teeth. :?

So, I supplement, on occasion, with some other things. A
huge one for me is Kenpachi from Bleach. I am finding
myself more and more picky with him all the time as well.
Other series that I collect from here and there just aren't
that important.

Actually, I am finding myself fallen farther and farther away
from collecting all the time. Funny how something called real
life will cause this to happen :P

My original focus was AnC and FY. The year I collected but did not own a gallery I realized that FY were much more expensive and I liked AnC more... so I just focused on that and Fy on the side.

Ive pretty much kept true to "my roots". LOL I sometimes find cels & etc from other series I want. Rarely do I bid but it happens sometimes. ^_~

Focused like a laser beam :P

But that is not to say that I have not been "tempted by the fruit of another..." but I know that as soon as I buy a non-GR cel, a really great piece of GR art work will show up and I don't want to be unprepared.

I started with FY, and the same series still continues to suck out my soul and money from my bank account. ^_^;

I guess I have strayed quite a bit from my original plan of "only collecting Naruto" :hurt: , but it's just too hard to stick to only a couple of series. X|
