What's the longest you've gone without purchasing artwork?

my definition of 'artwork' is any cels or sketches. thank you very much. and no, i do not collect anything else anime related besides that. i also haven't purchased any photography, etc. in 2 years based on your definition as well.
in my opinion, it's still art, just different genres.

I hope you didn’t take offense at my response ginga123?
My comment ‘that depends on your definition of artwork’ didn’t mean to imply that anime cels and sketches aren’t artwork. I very much consider them so (otherwise I wouldn’t be so interested in collecting.) I only said that because I suspected the question was only asking about anime (cels and sketches, etc,) art, but the term ‘artwork’ is vague and my answer went outside the genre I suspected was being asked about. I’ve gone very long stretches without buying anime art, but not very long at all without buying art in general. They are just different genres, which is why I answered that way.

no worries, none taken
the Smithsonian recognizes our cels and sketches as a form of 'pop culture' art.
maybe the word itself is too broad?

Hi Ralph, I haven't seen you around for a while- or perhaps I don't check the right forum threads
I was reminded of you when I checked my MySpace page the other day... anyway!
For me I may have gone 8 weeks without buying any anime artwork, although I check the auction pages on YJ and Mandarake every day. Well, with Mandarake I usually scan through a whole week's worth in one shot and take note of anything that catches my eye.
My typical buying habits are weekly or fortnightly depending on what's available.

I went on a 4 year hiatus that ended late 2007. Completely cold turkey-no buying and no looking either. Mostly because of too much school and too little money
I didn't even mean to start back up but I took one little peek and BAM that one little peek ended up with me buying a new cel. It's interesting to see some of the changes in the marketplace over that period of time though so I feel like it gave me some perspective. Of course I happened to miss the closing of Anime Taro and Anime Chaos ;_; and probably so many wonderful cels.

It has been about 1 year I'd guess. I can't judge by my last update on RS either since I waited months before I posted those, even the fan arts I bought I don't think I put up right away. I haven't even looked on auction or dealer sites, I barely glanced at personal sales in that long either. I did buy one cel to celebrate moving into my first home, but it hasn't been updated yet.

Hard to say exactly. The longest in recent years has been only about 3 months.
There was a rather huge gap when I first started that I am not sure would qualify. I got my first cel as a freebie around 1994. I spent a lot of time looking but avoiding spending any money. This was due to a combination of reasons. I had just graduated 2 years previously, and then I bought my home and started a new business in the same year, 1994. There was about a 5-6 year gap from that first cel to when I felt I had enough disposable income to afford spending money on artwork. It actually would have been longer, but I got lucky and won quite a bit of money in a charity raffle. I was able to pay off my bills and still have a chunk left over for getting started on my collection.
