Perhaps no one else uses anything like that ;). Personally, I use my own code which is a cel gallery app that I wrote in PHP & MySQL.

I would love to advise, but I am the same as above. I just use wordpad to write XML/CSS. No fancy programs or anything so I don't know what would be best for you to use. Sorry.

My Non-RS gallery (in sig) is Drupal, ver. 5 I think. It's about 2 years old and I tried to update to latest version (6) but most of the modules broke so I left it. Nothing too exciting really, I just wanted a linear history of updates with preview and a some sort of tag system. Still a work in progress...maybe it's time to revisit good ol' PHP

Depends what I want to do with the website. I'm just going to assume you're really looking for a gallery web application. I typically go to sourceforge.net to find something free and interesting. I can say though that I've yet to see a gallery application that's really good and easy to use as a cel gallery, then again I have specific criterias on what makes a good cel gallery.

The pro's on Druapl is that you can implement as many modules as you want :) photo, video, ...
I'm going to try it in Drupal 6.19, we will see :)

I have a related question for you, Joost (or anyone else who uses CMS software to build a site): If you're knowledgeable enough to customize something like Drupal, why not learn to go a step further? Is it just that you don't want to waste the time? I can totally appreciate that. I've played with customizing stuff like Wordpress and other web apps, and I find it totally annoying (but that's just me.. I've always figured I'm weird :P). I've always found it most beneficial to have a programming background, even when working on supposedly simple user-friendly programs.

The reason I decided to develop my own gallery app is because I used to use a photo gallery app for my gallery, and when I had a problem with it, the programmer bit my head off *sigh*. So, that pretty much told me that it was time to move on and work on my own, because editing someone else's code is nothing short of obnoxious to me. I spent a month building the first version of my gallery app and soooo many more upgrading and improving it. In fact, I'm working on the improvements list for the next version right now.

Chaos -- Dreamweaver, really?! You developed SMJ in Dreamweaver? Eeesh! I think I'd shoot myself in the head. :rollin Whenever I use a program like that, I always end up feeling like I'm fighting with it to do what I want to do. Maybe I'm just too old-fashioned. Or, Dreamweaver is better than I remember ;).
