It's been a long time...

Post by oion »

I think I became mostly inactive somewhere around 2005-ish or so. And then my galleries went offline for, I don't know, the past three years? Oops. :P

My galleries are back up and will most likely remain static since I'm essentially retired now (from active looking, anyway). Series include Juuni Kokki, Kodocha, Ruin Explorers, AMG movie, and a few other miscellaneous things. Things have been vastly pared down since my peak, definitely.

Now, I plan on pruning.... er, sometime this year (cel books are in another state): Tenchi Muyo OAV (almost all of it, seriously) and four Ruin Explorers cels. Old school. So if anyone is interested in cels from those two oldies, feel free to drop me a note--none of the ones I'm thinking about selling are in the public galleries at the moment. I won't have access to my books until the end of August.

Well, I don't know who else is still around from when I was active in the 2000-2005-ish period and who might remember me, but "hi." ^^

Edit:
Actually, here's a little temporary page to show what cels I've set aside for possible sale (in August), so you can see. I have one Ayeka cel from the OAV, but she's normally paired with Yosho from the same flashback.

Hi oion. I joined in 2004, so we must have crossed paths a few times, though, sad to say, I'm not sure where. (But I'm not sure of most things these days...) You do have some gorgeous AMG Urds, however. Welcome back!

I do remember watching The Hobbit on TV in the late 70s and enjoying it very much. You have two outstanding Bilbos, and your comments on the series are very interesting. While I'm not quite old enough to have a first edition of the book, I recently did air out a somewhat musty copy with a bookplate dated "Christmas 1966" (carefully added to the page after the facsimile of the map so as not to spoil it).

Heh. That's when the adult reaction was that Tolkien was a flash in the pan, like that Japanese Anna May, that no one would bother to recall in five years or less.

Hello, and thanks. :)

Sadly, I don't have any noteworthy book editions from anything, especially from the likes of the Tolkien series. That sounds like a very nice copy you have there, so I'll exude a bit of book envy your way. One of these days, I'll own a personal library full of musty things. No e-reader for me, thanks.

(Indeed, I'm sure the Tolkien empire is laughing at those early critics.)

Yeah, it's "24th printing" and not at all significant as a rare book. Its main significance is that my mother, who was nothing if not tolerant of new things, gave it to me on my 16th Christmas. She let me gloat and wallow for a few weeks, then read it herself, followed by all three volumes of LotR. She was also quite happy to listen to LPs of Bill Cosby doing monologues (back when colored people were mainly noted for drugs and crime) and listened to the Beatles until she stopped hearing "noise" like the other grown-ups and got the "beat."

I never forgot the way that she was willing to see what I found interesting in my generation's culture, and I tried to pass it on when I became a father.

"Hey Dad! There's something really awesome on TV now! It's called Gundam Wing! Will you watch it with me?"

Sure. It might just be the start of something.

Hector the Collector loved these things with all his soul,
Loved them more than shining diamonds, loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people came and looked...and called it junk.

That's an awesome philosophy for life (especially multigeneration families). :) Hats off to you.

It's true, not all new things are bad... I mean, look at the evolution of painted cels to production sketches. I actually prefer pencil and paper because they feel a lot less delicate, and I don't expect the lines to fade severely over time. The Hobbit cels are pretty faded, and it looks like someone tried to fix the lines at some point. ^^;

Pish. :3
Yes, I still have it! In fact, I was flipping through my book over vacation and that was the first thing stuffed there. I'm not sure if I saved the old Animanga thread in whole (too bad if I didn't), but I should put the Bean into the gallery at least, if I can find a scan archived somewhere--besides yours, I mean. Hehehe.

Fun times in cel tricks.

P.S.: Whenever I see a Jinnai cel like yours, I get the "Hubba Hubba Zoot Zoot" song in my head. Darned AMVs. :o

Love the Kodocha cels! Not alot of cels with Akito out there so I love seeing cels with him in it! I fairly remember Ruin Explorer's and you have very nice cels from it. Even one of Iri as a mouse! Thanks for sharing!

My cat Seeley is a Sailor Moon fan, too!

I didn't anticipate on having a black female cat and a white male cat or I would have named them Luna and Artemis... oh well.
