No. I would have you killed off for a beach (or fjord). There is a slight difference :dgrin

After watching several hours of CNN over the last three days, my heart goes out to the people along the Gulf Coast. To those Beta members whose families are affected :ghug:

Also, I've enjoyed my visits to that wonderful city, and must say. May the "Big Easy" rise again!

I've just heard on the news oil prices will rise again due to the hurricane. :x

Big whoopin' suprise there. If instead of the hurricane, someone sneezed, the prices would have risen because of the potential damage it could have done.

The Doctor : … and then, just to finish off, I’m going to wipe every last stinking Dalek out of the sky !
Dalek : But you have no weapons ! No defenses ! No plan !
The Doctor : Yeah ! And doesn’t that scare you to death ?

I now have a refugee living in my guest room 8O

He can't get back into northern Louisiana by bus, but he was only going back to meet up with his brother who will pick him up here on Saturday :)

True... but in this case there's a good reason for it. Lots of refineries and wells in the Gulf got pretty much smashed up and/or can't operate without POWER. (not that I don't think some folks won't try to take advantage of the situation...)

I am... so thoroughly humbled and profoundly saddened by this turn of events... the complete and utter inability to do anything is just awful. Sure, I'll contribute what I can to the Red Cross, and if they'll have me, I'll donate blood. But what good that does those people clinging to the tops of roofs RIGHT NOW is basically nothing. It's almost like survivor's guilt... here I am on a glorious day in Colorado, in a mostly secure job, and an ENTIRE REGION has just had their entire lives... erased.

We need some decent aerial mecha in there :)

In all seriousness... someone on a blog my husband frequents said "WHY doesn't the government charter a few cruise ships for the people at the Superdome?? Doesn't that make sense?! food, shelter, medical facilities... they could do that just long enough to get the water pumped back out of the city and go from there...

But it'll never happen. It makes too much sense. :bawl

It makes sense to me.

Me too, Cloud. Will you write to the President and tell him to charter some cruise ships?

Let me think it over. Count me out on this one, I was never much of a writer.

I guess you can't count on a robot to be a humanitarian.

I don't know about cruise ships. Being surrounded by water again is probably the last thing they'd want.
The rest of us can only do what we can, as little as it may seem at the time. Every little bit helps.

Hmmm. Hadn't really thought of THAT angle :P On the other hand the ships do have working toilets, which is one of the issues at the superdome right at the moment. Tens of thousands of people without working sanitation = disease. Big time.

Phew.

Yep, we'll do what we can and ... punt on the rest, I guess.

Yeah, I'm fine. We had 9 tornadoes in my area but they all managed to miss my house. :D My parents were lucky too. They had 42 tornadoes in their area. All missed their house too. :D My brother lives 4 blocks from the beach on Florida's panhandle. He's been trapped in his area but he has plenty of food and some of the stores are open and accessible. He just couldn't leave his island for a couple days since the main road was underwater and the bridges were closed. I think all is getting back to normal there now. :)

What was crazy was the gas stations yesterday! X| We made national news. Some gas stations raised their prices to $5 a gallon. I was so glad I had gotten gas the night before. I paid $2.95 a gallon and thought that was bad until the chaos of Wednesday. 8O People just went crazy.
Can you hear this fangirl squee?!
